When people talk about France, they usually speak about Paris, Nice, Marseilles or Cannes.
I am guilty as charged of doing the above.
Before visiting the wildly dynamic country, I’d only ever thought about Paris.
I’d dreamed of going to paris ever since I was little watching my favorite child stars Mary-Kate and Ashley olsen get passported to paris and run all around the magical city.
I’m so thankful I met my boyfriend Yann, because he helped make that dream of mine come true.
Being that he was from the country and all, it sure made the gap a lot easier to close.
I’m sure I’d have gotten there…eventually…, but he definitely sped up the process.
So on my second visit to France, Yann took me all over the country and it was awesome!

Uzès
I’d never heard of Uzès before I visited the small and extremely charming medieval town.
It was one of the many stops I was surprised with on our 3 week trip around France.
We’d just come from visiting his friend who lived in Montélimar and we were making our way towards the cote d’azur.
The trees lining the country side roads on the drive down made the journey a beautiful one, I don’t think I put my camera down the entire way.
This is one thing I came to be familiar with in France. Everywhere you go, the trees are perfectly aligned with each other on either sides of the road.
The trees were planted by order of Napoleon to give the soldiers shelter as they marched down the roads way back in the day.
And thank you Napoleon, because they make for such a pretty drive!
The pros of traveling in the off season
Upon arriving in Uzès, we quickly realized there were not a lot of people around.
A score about traveling during the off season, there aren’t hordes of tourists around. So as we walked around the town, it almost felt as if we had the streets all to ourselves.
The town itself isn’t that big, so we were able to walk around and see a good chunk of it in a short amount of time.
We strolled up and down the narrow cobblestone streets, took a tour around the main square, Place aux herbes , where you can find all the shops and cafes, and took in the view over the valley from the beside the fenestrelle tower.
A great spot for a quick lunch
Looking over the large expanse of colourful trees in the valley and the characteristic buildings, we sat and ate sandwiches we’d made earlier. (Packing food is a great way to lower costs when traveling, and we do it all the time!)
After our little pose, we started making our way back to the car to head to our next destination. On the way, we stopped down some of the little streets to take some more photos because, really, the town is just so charming.
If you haven’t been to Uzès, you really should put it on your list. Especially if you are heading down to Provence, it is definitely worth a visit.
