Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is one of the most popular attractions for tourists visiting Vancouver.
In this post
Where is Capilano Park
Located in North Vancouver, just 20 minutes away from the downtown core, you are able to be transported into the West Coast rainforest of Capilano Park.
It is also right around the corner from Grouse Mountain, which is great for people wanting to visit both attractions the same day.
I actually hiked the grouse grind just before coming to the park, which was another awesome experience.
We opted to purchase our tickets at the park as it wasn’t peak visiting season, so the crowds weren’t expected to be too big.
Our tickets were bought without having to wait in a long line which was great, and we began exploring the park.
The Suspension Bridge
I hadn’t really put much thought into what it would be like crossing the bridge until the time came to actually cross the bridge.
As we approached it, I began having that weird sensation I get when I’m met with heights.
Now if you’ve read my other blog posts like my first time in Paris or Visiting Grouse Mountain you’ll know that I’m not a fan of heights.
No, scratch that.
It’s not that I’m not a fan of heights, its just that when I’m high off the ground and there’s even a 0.05% chance that I could fall and break something or plummet to my death, I get really anxious.
But like really anxious.
Knees buckling, legs quivering, body shaking kind of anxious.
It’s not normal.
I know it’s totally my brain just playing games with me, but until I can figure out how to get control over these crazy thoughts, I know this is something I just have to deal with it.
One day I will though, one day.
Anyways, sorry got a little off track there, let’s get back to the bridge.
Capilano Suspension Bridge is a sight to be seen. It is 460 feet long and sits at a height of 230 feet above the river.
Crossing the bridge took a little work on my end, you know because of the fear thing, but also because it sways and wobbles a little.
But you know what they say, you have to cross the bridge to get to the other side!
And getting to the other side is definitely what you want to do because there is a lot more to do here than just see the suspension bridge.
The treetops trek and Nature’s boardwalk
We explored the Treetops Adventure which gave us a nice high vantage point to take in the views of the forest.
It took us through a series of 7 more bridges, all wound throughout the trees.
These bridges were much shorter and a whole lot less frightening to cross than the suspension bridge.
We then walked along the nature’s edge boardwalk, taking in more beautiful sights along the way.
We took a little rest in between (remember we hiked the grind just before, so we were pretty tired) and then had to cross back over the suspension bridge to get to the Cliffwalk.
Crossing the bridge was a lot easier the second time around.
I was even able to let go of the rope to snap a few pictures.
Yay, progress!
The cliffwalk
Now you would think that because I’m not gung ho for the whole heights thing that I would have a problem going along the Cliffwalk, but nope, I was perfectly fine.
Maybe because I could see that it was a very sturdy structure and the chances of anything happening were pretty much null and void.
I don’t really know how my brain deciphers scary from not so scary, but either way the Cliffwalk was another feature to see in the park.
The Cliffwalk came to an end, bringing us back down a lovely path.
We’d had a fun time but we were so tired from the mornings’ activities, we decided to call it a day, head back to our Airbnb and take a nap.
And a great nap it was!
Capilano Suspension Bridge was a great adventure and one that I totally recommend visiting if you’re planning a trip to Vancouver.
You don’t want to miss out on experiencing this little slice of rainforest heaven just outside the city and you’ll be happy you did too.
