Last winter I had the opportunity to stay at Calabogie Lodge Resort in the Ottawa Valley, all thanks to one of my bestest friends, Sofhia
Awhile back, Sofhia had bought a brand spankin’ new Kia and one of the incentives for buying it was a “free” vacation.
So when the time came to cash in, she realized that it would be better to use it here in Ontario, then try to fly somewhere.
That’s where all the extra costs not included in the incentive would rack up.
She messaged our group chat saying she found a nice resort up North and she wanted us to all go up together.
Let me tell you, I got hella excited.
All we had to do was pay the taxes and resort fees, which worked out to be around $70 per person for the week.
Yes, you read that right, $70 for a full 7 days people!
I immediately looked up the resort online, this was a place I never even knew existed, much less would be able to afford to go to on my own.
The boyfriend was visiting from France over the winter for a little over a month.
Every time we get together, we try to do as much as possible in the short amount of time we’re together.
We decided to head up a couple days earlier than the group and stop at a few places before reaching out final destination at the Lodge Resort.
You can read more about our extended adventure here. Winter travel posts coming soon!

Checking in at the lodge
We arrived in Calabogie Friday evening and had a super smooth check in.
In fact, it was better than smooth, we got a free upgrade!
The receptionist gave us a quick rundown of where things were, what time things opened and closed, nearby shopping, as well as check out information.
I was honestly just trying to hold my excitement in, feigning calm on the outside, but jumping up and down on the inside.
We drove the short distance from the main building to our villa.
Even saying villa sounds so boogie!
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised upon entering through the front door.
Our villa
I then proceeded to do what I normally do when I first get into a new place: Run around from room to room, ooing and awing, turning the lights on as I go to get a really good look at the place.
It was beautiful.
Activities around the lodge
When the rest of the group arrived the next day, we spent the weekend relaxing in the pool and jacuzzi.
Sadly the pool was smaller than we thought it would be but still nice nonetheless.
And the space had a very nice ambiance to it.
We started our days with a big breakfast, then indulged in some hiking and skiing which were both just a short drive away from the resort.
Calabogie lake
The lodge is situated right on the lake, and since it was winter, the whole lake was frozen over.
We took a little walk out, not too far though, we didn’t trust it that much haha.
Venturing out maybe 30 steps was more than enough for me and after hearing a little cracking, which is apparently normal, we bee-lined it back to the dock.
I was NOT taking any chances.
The resort had a restaurant on site that served some delicious food and it had a nice and chill sportsy vibe to it.
Bye bye friends
Unfortunately my friends couldn’t stay the whole week as they had to get back to work and “real life”.
They left the Monday leaving myself and Yann with the whole place to ourselves for the rest of the week.
Not too shabby huh.
We definitely took advantage of the cozy fireplace, sleeping in front of if a couple nights, A lot of time was spent relaxing and even watched a few movies on the flat screen Tv.
Yes, I brought an HDMI cord and my laptop.
The jacuzzi tub got some great use too ;)!
A day trip
In the middle of the week, we visited Ottawa as it was only about an hours’ drive away from Calabogie.
We explored the capitol of Canada for the day, which even though it was frigidly cold, and your girl don’t like cold, was still a lot of fun.
Epic fails
We were also supposed to go for another hike, but our rental car would not start…I’ll save that super stressful story for another day though.
All in all our stay at Calabogie was super fun and if you’re looking for a nice getaway, I’d definitely suggest staying there.
Save up some coins and head to this awesome resort.
Till next time! Stay Blessed ♡
