shylomalcolm August 21, 2021 0 AUGUST 9, 2021 -We’ve all heard it before, “Comparison kills”, “ comparison steals all joy”, etc… A quote a came across that I really resonate with is: “Every minute you spend wishing you had someone else’s life is a minute spent wasting yours”. Ain’t that the truth though? I know I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit wasting time wishing I had what someone else had. Especially in this wonderful world of Instagram where you can easily compare your life with what someone else highlights of their own. But you don’t know their back story, you don’t know if they’re secretly miserable but are posting like they are living their best life. What you do know and can be certain of is YOUR back story. I often find myself fawning over other people’s travel photos and wishing I was traveling like they are and that I could go to the places they’ve been. This is where gratitude plays a big part in breaking that ugly spirit of comparison. Every so often I like to take a trip down memory lane and scroll through my feed. In doing so, I’m reminded that I’ve been to some pretty awesome places and hey, my photos are actually pretty nice and oh yeah, I remember that awesome moment where I did that thing I’d always wanted to do 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 If you’re an avid poster like I am documenting your travel journey,or just your life for that matter, and you’ve found yourself comparing your life to others, I strongly encourage you to take a trip down your own feed. I’m sure you’ll find some awesome stuff in there and you just might feel your mood shift from “ugh I’ve barely done anything, to hey, I’ve actually done some cool stuff”. Compare your life with YOUR life, not someone else’s and try to develop a gratitude practice. It’s something that’s really helped me put things into perspective and I’m sure it could help you too! Go ahead, try it and come back and tell me how you feel 🤗
