I wanted to do something a little special for Yann’s birthday this year. It had been awhile since we’d been anywhere or done anything, so I decided to take him on a little trip. I decided to go to the Blue Mountain area as I’d been wanting to go for a while and also Yann had never been.

After sifting through several Airbnb listings, I finally found one that wasn’t too expensive and was in a good location. As my luck had it, the only nights that were available were the exact 2 nights I needed. Thank the Lord!

I booked it up 2 nights before his b-day (I know, I’m usually last minute like that🤦🏾‍♀️, I’m working on it haha) and we were set!

Staying at the Collingwood Hill Side Condo in Blue Mountain

The Airbnb

The Airbnb was in a really good location. It was only a 3 minute drive to The Village ( or a 15 minute walk), about a 7 minute drive to the Scandinave Spa, and 11 minutes from Walmart and other shopping. If you’re getting your ski on, you’re literally almost on the slopes.

The Airbnb wasn’t big but it was the perfect size for just the two of us. If you want to go with a group, this Airbnb can host up to 4 people with two sleeping on the bed and the other two on the pull-out couch, but I think it’d be a little tight.

Upon entering the space using the coded pad, you’re immediately brought into the living area and then on the right is the island and kitchen just behind it. Off the kitchen is a closet with a mini fridge, kettle, and toaster inside.

On the other side of the living area and couch is the queen size bed. Beside the bed is a nightstand and beside that, a bench against the wall. On the other side of the bed is another nightstand holding a lamp and beside that, the closet.

Off the bedroom area is the washroom.

Our stay

From the beginning, communication between myself and the host was excellent. They were helpful and responded to messages promptly. I received check-in instructions with all the necessary information needed making check-in go smoothly.

The Airbnb came with 2 complimentary Ms Vicky’s chips and 6 Keurig coffee cups. Having extras for your guests is always a nice touch because it’s definitely not required, so when you see extra goodies, it’s always nice. The kitchen was also stocked with all the necessities to cook your own food which came in really handy since we prepared a few meals there.

Keep it clean please

I like things clean and neat and I don’t like germs (who does, right), but I wouldn’t really call myself a neat freak. I’ve stayed in very basic places with no amenities and been A-okay. I’ve camped in a tent, o00kay.

Right away, I noticed that the counters weren’t really clean and a bit sticky. Luckily when I’m visiting other places, I always bring lysol wipes just in case. I usually wipe down the toilet and faucets and generally any surfaces that could be carrying yucky bacteria.

I needed my wipes for this AirBnb and I was honestly so happy I brought it because I noticed it had not been cleaned very well. There were crumbs in the tray on the counter and so I pulled out my wipes and wiped down the counters. Since I was at it, I went into the bathroom and wiped down the sink and toilet as well.

The bed situation

The listing says the bed is a queen but I would say it’s closer to a double. I sleep in a queen bed every night and this bed was definitely smaller but I didn’t mind. I’m small and Yann isn’t big, so we were good. No complaints there….

Before getting into bed the first night, I pulled the covers back just to see what that situation looked like. I was already a little skeptical after seeing the counters which is like the easiest thing to clean, yet weren’t, which is why I didn’t jump into the bed like I normally do.

Good thing because guess what I found just below my pillow?! Pizza crust crumbs! At least that’s what I believe they were. Now I was wondering if the sheets had even been changed after the last guest checked out because…how do crumbs get in the bed under the covers after having been changed?? Your guess is as good as mine…unless the sheets were indeed not changed.

I shudder to think about it but as I didn’t bring my own sheets, I quickly snapped a pic (its below in the gallery) and then proceeded to wipe down the bed with my hands to get rid of anything else that may be lurking. I didn’t see anything else and the sheets did  look clean, so I sent up a prayer to the good Lord asking Him to watch over our bodies in this bed and got in. I had my own silk pillowcase which I put overtop of the one provided.

What’s under the couch?

The second day, Yann and I pushed the couch back to get out workout on (you know, still trying to keep our regimen going even when we’re travelling-especially when cause of all the extra eating haha), and the amount of dust and dirt  that was uncovered was slightly unsettling. There was also a toy, probably from a previous guest.

Again, I began really questioning whoever cleans this place and if they ever actually did it properly.

Obviously not🥴.

We found the broom in the closet by the front door and I simply swept it up so we could continue with our day.

Shower time

When it came time to shower, I was a little skeptical to use the towels provided but they looked (and smelled) clean, so that was good enough-ish for me. The water pressure was a little disappointing as it was pretty much non-existent. The temperature however, was good, so my shower experience was still okay.

The Airbnb surroundings

Just outside the window is a small stream that gives off the most calming sounds. It was warm enough when we visited to open up the screen door and let the air flow and the outside sounds come it. It was really calming and tranquil. It wasn’t warm enough, however, to enjoy sitting out on the small patio but it looked quaint.

We took a walk around the grounds along the path that ran beside the building. We essentially followed the stream over a couple of bridges. The walk was short, but it was still very nice, especially under the warm sun.

~

In conclusion, believe it or not, I would actually stay here again. Our stay was decent, despite the overall uncleanliness of the place. The location was honestly perfect, the size was great for the two of us, and we really had everything we needed.

I would honestly just bring my lysol wipes, extra sheets and maybe towels, and come with lower expectations 😂.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

~Amazing location

~Excellent communication with the host

~Fully stocked kitchen with all the appliances you need to cook.

~Secure access to the apartment

~Lovely stream just outside the window

~Lots of parking available

Cons:

~The apartment was not cleaned properly and definitely left me feeling like maybe I was sitting or laying in other people’s dirt.

~Being on the lower level. For some people, they may feel more secure in a higher up apartment. However, we were okay being on the lower level (no stairs involved), however, the people above us were a little heavy on their feet and were a little noisy.

~Water pressure was very low, the fixture could also use some updating

~There wasn’t a whole lot of lighting happening. During the day, it was fine but at night, besides the bathroom and kitchen light, there was only one lamp beside the bed to brighten up the space. Also the outlet it was plugged into wasn’t fully operational, only one out of the two plugs were working.

Planning a trip to the Collingwood? Book this Airbnb starting around $175 CAD per night. Please keep in mind prices fluctuate and are usually more expensive on the weekend. Also keep in mind you may want to bring some extra cleaning products but it’s worth it!

~

Until next time, stay blessed ♡
