Traveling is an amazing thing.
Being able to visit different places all over the world or just the next city over is such a blessing and it can be a super exciting thing. However, a lot of factors go into planning trips from the accommodations, to the flights, to everything in between. It can get super expensive trying to see the world so it’s always good to try and find some awesome deals to help you save where and when you can.
Airfare
Google Flights
I literally google everything, so naturally when it comes to planning my travels, google flights is my number one go to. They are an awesome search engine that compares fares from different websites and flight providers and shows you the best prices. They also show you which days are cheaper to fly so you can see about extending that trip an extra day or week for the exact same price.
Secret Flying
Secret flying is a best kept secret website (that’s not so secret anymore)that posts mistake fares. When prices are inputted into the system by airlines or travel agencies, sometimes they’re uploaded wrong which results in flights that are significantly lower than they’re meant to be. I love searching for flights here, the prices are just crazy unbelievably low.
Momondo
Momondo is an awesome engine that searches thousand of sites to help you find the cheapest fares. I’ve used it before but I haven’t actually booked through them, but I’ve only heard great things about it.
Skyscanner
If you are flexible with your destinations and dates, then Skyscanner is a great search engine for you to take advantage of. They search millions of flights to find you the best available prices.
Expedia
Expedia is one of the biggest and most popular travel booking websites. They search through thousand of deals for accommodations, flights, car rental, or complete vacation packages and show you sometimes low or even comparable prices. For me, Expedia is hit or miss, they don’t always have the lowest prices but they are a super reliable company.
Accomodations
AirBnb
Airbnb is an awesome home-sharing platform. It allows you to stay in the home or apartment of an owner renting it out on a short or long term basis. You can choose to have your own space booking an entire apartment, or you can simply book a room in a home, sharing the common areas with either the owner or fellow travelers who have booked a room as well. If you’re traveling with a group, it’s a lot easier to split the costs of an Airbnb than it is to book separate rooms at a hotel. Click here to get $45 off your first trip!
Booking.com
Booking.com is an awesome search engine when it comes to choosing your hotel stay. They search through hundreds of hotels to find out the best prices and show real reviews and ratings from people allowing you to make the best choice. They offer a book now and pay later service, so you can book instantly and you can also cancel your reservation without a cancellation fee.
Trivago
Trivago is a great search engine that searches other engines to find the best and most comparable prices. They do extensive searches going through hundreds of hotels and booking websites to show you the lowest price.
HostelWorld
Hostelworld is one of the biggest and most popular booking websites when it comes to booking your hostel wherever you’re traveling to. While I prefer staying in a hotel or an Airbnb, if you’re truly trying to budget travel, then staying in a hostel is what you want to do.
Couchsurfing
Couch surfing is an awesome site that allows you connect with locals from all over the world and either crash on their couch (or spare room) for a night or a few for free. While I don’t think it’s something I myself would be totally comfortable with, I’ve read and heard so many stories about some really great experiences some people have had couch surfing.
Travel Insurance
World Nomads
After my big flight scare, I vowed never to travel without insurance again. World Nomads comes highly recommended and should definitely be your choice when planning your future travels. They are more than just an insurance company, they are a community where you can find travel advice from fellow travelers, inspiring stories, discover destinations and more. Their plans have amazing coverage at low competitive prices. From theft to illnesses before or during your trip, to lost luggage or documents, World Nomads has you covered.
Travel Planning
Search for and discover hundreds of different destinations through Pinterest. It ain’t just for pinning recipes, quotes, and cute outfits. Pinterest is a very powerful visual search engine. Find travel guides, tips, inspiration, travel stories and so much more to help you plan your travels. Any time I’m planning a trip, I always look to Pinterest for some inspo!
