Two Years Married: Still My Favourite Adventure

Reading Time: 3 Mins

We met in Cuba in 2016. Did the long-distance thing for three years and now we’re two years into marriage. There may have even been a little CNN feature! Our unexpected vacation romance became forever.

~

If you would’ve told me years ago that I’d meet my husband on a trip to Cuba… I probably would’ve laughed or rolled my eyes, or both. I wouldn’t have believed it in a million years… But here we are—now two years into marriage, and in some ways it still feels like we just met a little while ago… while also feeling like we’ve known each other forever. Weird, I know.

Our story has never been typical. From our unexpected connection on a sunny island, to texts and video calls, long-distance visits and travels to many countries together, and eventually to building a life side by side right here in Canada. It’s been a journey full of twists and turns, highs and lows, lots of laughter, learning, miscommunication and holding tight to faith. Girrrllll I tell you God’s timing is something and I guess He saw fit to bring us together in such an unexpected and beautiful way.

Today, we’re celebrating two years of marriage and it honestly still feels a little surreal. Not just because we made it through the “honeymoon phase,” or that time is flying (how have I already known this guy nine years?!) but because we’ve grown together through the challenging and the messy- the beautiful, and the ordinary parts of life too. We’re still choosing each other each day.

A surprise CNN feature

A little while ago, something unexpected (and honestly, kind of wild) happened—Yann and I were featured in a CNN Travel article about real-life vacation romances that actually lasted🥹. I meant to share it months ago when it came out, but that season were a blur of holiday orders and trying to keep up with everything, so it never got the attention it deserved. But now feels like the perfect time.

It felt a little crazy to see our story shared with the world, but also incredibly humbling. If you want to read the article, you can check it out here: CNN – Chance Encounters:Vacation romances that actually lasted

Now bare in mind there were some liberties taken with some parts of the story, gotta keep the whole thing exciting and juicy right!!, but you pretty much get the jist of how it all went down. Just read some of those details loosely lol 😅. The story is also behind a paywall, so if you’re in the US and want to read the article, you’ll either have to subscribe to CNN or use a VPN and change your location.

Seeing our story in print was more than just exciting though—it reminded me of how far we’ve come, how faithful God has been, and the power of staying open to where life (and love) might lead you – how love can often show up in the most unexpected places…even on a beach in Cuba.

This anniversary, I’m not celebrating perfection cause Yann and my relationship is soooo far from that—I’m celebrating growth, grace, and the quiet strength and unity that builds when two people keep showing up for each other. I’m celebrating being with the man who still makes me laugh, still loves to go on adventures with me, and still looks at me like I’m the best thing that ever happened to him -most times haha (even when I’m lookin a hawt mess🥴🥰).

So here’s to two years down and forever to go. I wouldn’t want to do life with anyone else. ❤️

Until next time, stay blessed ♡
