Located in the south of France lies the doorway to Provence, the Pont du Gard.
After stopping in Uzès for a short but very sweet time, we drove over to the Pont du Gard which is situated near Nimes and Avignon.
I didn’t know too much about the bridge, except that it was big, beautiful and very old and that it was a sight to be seen.
We lucked out and found some parking along the street a little walk away from the entrance.

The Pont du Gard
Now, can I just say that the pictures I googled did NOT do the bridge justice.
It was so much bigger and more magnificent than I could have imagined.
And luckily, because it was off season, there weren’t too many people out and so we had no problems taking as many photos as we wanted without getting a lot of other people in them.
Some quick facts
Some things I learned about the Pont du Gard is that it’s an ancient roman aqueduct and is said to be the highest one in the world.
It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site which crosses the Gardon rivière.
The bridge is located 4 kilometers from the town Vers-Pont-du-Gard.
The bridge sits 48 metres high and is impressively well preserved, especially considering that it is over 1000 years old.
Walking across the bridge
I was super happy to see that you could walk across the Pont du Gard and that’s exactly what we did.
After snapping our pictures, we climbed the stairs leading us to the first level and an amazing view over the river.
We took our time walking across the bridge, capturing the scene around us and taking in the views.
Then sadly, it was time to go.
We were headed to Avignon before stopping for the night in La cote d’Azur.
I definitely recommend visiting the Pont du Gard, it exceeded my expectations and it should totally be experienced if you’re in the south of France!
Till next time! Stay Blessed ♡
