Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Mins

No trip to Paris is complete without visiting the Eiffel Tower. If you have yet to visit the Eiffel tower, it is high time to rectify that! I’m giving you some fun facts about the iconic tower as well as what you need to know before you go.

Paris

Yes,  this is a post dedicated solely to the amazing beauty that is the Eiffel tower in Paris, France.

If you haven’t been to Paris yet, you really need to start making plans to go. Paris is known as one of the most magical and beautiful cities in the world.

If you’re one of the lucky ones that have had the chance to see this enchanting city, I’m sure, just like me, you’re dying to go back again and again..and probably again.

There are so many wonderful things to do and see in Paris.

From visiting the monumental buildings to walking through the beautiful gardens to eating in the small cafes, one can never be bored or run out of things to do in the charming city.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel tower in Paris

The one thing I ALWAYS make sure to do each time I visit Paris is to visit the Eiffel tower.

From the very first moment I rounded the corner and took in the beautiful iron lady, I was in love….Well, truthfully I fell in love with the tower before I even set foot in Paris, but it’s all the same.

I kid you not, I was obsessed with visiting Paris ever since I was a young girl.

So it was a lifelong dream that was fulfilled when I finally got to visit the city and see the Eiffel tower up close and personal for the first time.

I want you to experience what I’ve experienced!

I can distinctly remember the amazing way I felt as my eyes gazed up in amazement at the massive piece of architecture.

It felt amazing.

It felt magical.

It felt surreal.

Now, you may think I’m exaggerating –and I might be, ever so slightly-, but seriously, if given the opportunity, I could sit and stare at the Eiffel tower for hours on end and never tire of it.

If you have yet to take in the tower for yourself, it’s time you start making plans to go. If you’re a romantic like me, you need to see it. And I’m dropping bombs today and I’m going to tell you just why.

A little history

The Eiffel Tower is located in the 7th arrondissement on the Champs de Mars. It is so tall that you can actually see it from almost everywhere in Paris.

It was built in 1889 and sits 324 meters high and was named after the engineer who designed it, Monsieur Gustave.

The tower was actually hated by the quote on quote “important people” in Paris who had tried to stop it from being built because they thought it would be a hideously ugly piece of poop looking architecture.

The funny thing is the Eiffel tower was supposed to be a temporary construction to celebrate 100 years since the French revolution.

However, by the 1900s, it had actually become the symbol of not only Paris but of France.

Well, would ya look at that!

The Iron Lady

First off, the Eiffel Tower is the symbol of Paris.

Also known as the Iron lady, the iconic structure, and probably one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world is a sight to be seen.

A source of inspiration for many, the tower has been featured in many movies over the years, which I’m sure you obviously already knew. It’s the place you go when making romantic gestures and has sort of become a universal symbol of love.

There are 3 levels you can visit on the tower. Each level provides you with an insanely gorgeous view over Paris. I myself only went up to the 2nd level which was still crazy high and was more than good enough for me.

The 2nd level is just above the first one, which you can only access by elevator. To reach the 3rd level, a different elevator is taken (for a higher fee, of course) and you will find yourself right under the very top of the tower.

As I’m not my best at high altitudes, the thought of heading up there did make my head spin just a little.

But if you want to spend them extra dolla bills and head on up to the small platform, then have at it!

All the power to ya.

Fun fact

Did you know: The Eiffel tower actually gets painted every 7 years!

This was a cool tidbit I learned a while back but the tower is painted to preserve the metalwork. The colour of the tower has actually changed over the years due to the colour paint they use.

It has varied between brown, red, yellow, and is now bronze, which is the colour it was when I visited.

It’s so crazy to think that this massive tower gets a facelift every so often and the fact that it’s done by hand is absolutely mind-boggling. As much as I love the tower, never sign me up for that job haha.

The Eiffel tower at night

The Eiffel tower really is something to see, but the tower at night?! It’s just magnificent.

Seriously I’m not kidding.

Check out this post where I show you what I’m talking about.

The tower lights up at night with 20,000 little light bulbs and 336 spotlights that sparkle and glow for 5 minutes at a time every hour on the hour when the sun goes down.

It is truly magical and it’s my all-time favourite part about visiting the tower.

Definitely plan to spend some time there so that you can get the full experience.

Bring a blanket, a bottle of wine, and some snacks and prepare to settle in for the show.
